What tasks have you particularly enjoyed in this seat?
I enjoyed having conduct of my own files and being able to assist clients in one of the biggest investments they will ever make: purchasing a home. It is a very rewarding feeling to inform a client that they have completed on their purchase, and knowing that your hard work contributed to their happiness is priceless.
What have you learned in this seat that will help in your career?
File management is key and this seat has assisted me in refining these skills. I have learnt to put myself in the client's shoes. Once you begin to understand this you will appreciate the need to keep the client updated and informed of progress. It also means looking at the bigger picture, not only advising on the law but looking at the wider context in which the client operates and seeing where you can add value.
I have been fortunate to attend to clients on my own and build relationships, which is key to being a successful lawyer.
What are your top tips for other trainees to hit the ground running in this seat?
