Annie Long's first impressions of being a trainee at Howard Kennedy

8/07/2021

My first impressions of being a trainee at Howard Kennedy are...

First impression of Howard Kennedy and its values?

Our values are talk straight, think smart and be yourself.

Everyone I have met has been friendly and supportive of my training and development. There are lots of initiatives which have enabled us to meet people firm wide, even when working from home, for example coffee roulette and team meals. There are opportunities to get involved in whatever interests you, whether that be by writing a blog, joining a sector group, assisting with BD efforts or getting involved with pro bono work in the field.

How much responsibility have you had so far? Have you had any client contact?

I am currently sat in the Residential Conveyancing Department and have had client contact from day one (this will however vary between departments as will depend on the type of client that the department work with and the type of work that is being carried out).

As a result of the stamp duty holiday my team have been extremely busy over the last few months. I have been getting involved with NQ level work (which is exactly what I was looking for from a training contract) and have run transactions from beginning to end which has given me a good understanding of the conveyancing process.

What was the last film you saw?

I am working my way through the Oscar nominations and last watched The Father which was extremely powerful. The main character (played amazingly by Anthony Hopkins) suffers from dementia and the story is told through his eyes so that the audience become muddled with him.
