Thank You, Next - Corporate Real Estate

22/03/2019

Seat moves are exciting and busy times. Here's a little insight and a helping hand should you rotate into Corporate Real Estate

What tasks have you particularly enjoyed in this seat?

I got to do several great research tasks: on what happens when a company is struck off the register; on the validity of electronic signatures; looking at shareholders' rights to see accounts; on what happens to a company with no directors.

I've liked tasks that involved writing to HMRC and drafting ancillary documents, because these were both areas where I had the opportunity to use my own judgement.

What have you learned in this seat that will help you in your career?

I've learned about company structures, company constitutions and the application of the Companies Act 2006- things that affect almost every other area of law in one way or another.

More generally, I have developed skills in producing work quickly. I have also developed skills in research and drafting.

What are your top tips for other trainees to hit the ground running in this seat?

Use times when you are less busy to read around PLC notes- it will be helpful when you need to produce a piece of work urgently.

Be honest about your capacity and what work you can take on.

Ask for help when you need it!
