A few short months into my training contract at Howard Kennedy, my first impressions are…
First impression of the firm and its values?
Having been introduced to the new brand values 'Talk Straight, Think Smart, Be Yourself' within the first few weeks of joining, these are exactly the values I have experienced so far - everyone strives to provide sincere and direct advice to clients in an unpretentious manner.
First impression of your seat?
Everyone has been extremely welcoming and approachable and the work interesting and varied across the three teams that I work with, being Administration of Estates, Tax, Trusts and Succession Planning and Contentious Probate.
First impression of the social side of the firm?
During my first week I attended departmental drinks at the Hilton which was a good start! I have also joined the Social Committee to work with others in organising social events throughout the year - a Bingo event, the Comedy Night and Christmas parties are all on the agenda!
First impression of the local area?
I used to live nearby, so it was a pleasant surprise to see the train station development is finally complete! The Scoop in More London Riverside is great for catching the sun and a bit of culture in the summer and Borough Market offers great hot food options for colder days.
How Charlotte became a trainee
Why did you decide to pursue a career in law?
I chose law because I want a career that is intellectually stimulating, that offers the opportunity to work with all kinds of people and businesses, and where I can be part of the ever-changing legal landscape.
What career path did you take to get to where you are?
I worked in various different roles within the art world whilst completing my legal studies, subsequent to which I worked as a paralegal prior to starting my training contract, gaining experience in IP, professional negligence and commercial litigation.
